Industrial edge
The sleek steel accents and crisp lines of this Fyfe Kitchens' project reflect its high-tech functionality
Originality is one of the hallmarks of a good design and it is especially critical when homeowners want a kitchen with the wow factor.
The owners of this kitchen gave such a brief to designer Kira Gray of Fyfe Kitchens, who says they also specified a very sleek, high-tech design with an industrial flavour.
"As the kitchen is the main hub of the house, its visual impact was a major consideration," she says. "But it also needed to be highly practical to work in."
To provide a crisp, clean-lined look, Kira Gray specified a variety of stainless steel accents, including a 150mm-thick benchtop on the peninsula, and a narrow 5mm benchtop for the cooking centre. The chunky peninsula benchtop flows beneath a CaesarStone countertop that appears to float above the steel.
Other innovative features include three mitred mobile storage cubes that can be wheeled out as needed.
The cabinetry incorporates three glass panels that slide to reveal an entire wall of pantry space and an extra work area. There is also plenty of additional accessible storage provided by custom-designed drawers with slide-outs.
