Many people want their kitchen to make a strong design statement, but the final product is often a diluted version of what was originally envisaged. The same cannot be said of this project, which reflects an adventurous spirit and a sense of fun.Designer Mal Corboy CKD of Mal Corboy Design created two stand-out features for the kitchen hot pink backpainted glass cabinetry, and a circular cantilevered Corian benchtop in Glacier White. To ensure the pink wouldn't be overwhelming, many of the lower cabinets feature high-gloss white lacquer. The sleek, unbroken look of the kitchen is enhanced by the seamless, free-flowing form of the Corian benchtops. "Because Corian can be moulded and formed to any shape, without joins, it was the most suitable high-end surfacing material for the kitchen," Corboy says. "We were also able to engineer the Corian to create the large cantilevered breakfast bar, which would not have been possible with more traditional materials."Corboy says Corian's renowned durability and stain resistance were other considerations. In keeping with the kitchen's high standard of specification, the cabinetry features Hettich soft-closing doors and drawers. These systems, like the Corian, are distributed by The Laminex Group. The overhead cabinets incorporate an electric door opening system.
