Extensive remodeling projects can be a long-term commitment, so it's essential to think any project through from beginning to end. While budgets and planning are crucial, choosing the right contractors is also the key to success.

Fortunately, if you are considering renovating, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is available to help. As the voice of the remodeling industry, NARI is a resource for the remodeling-ready consumer to find professional and ethical contractors.

NARI members include full servicecontractors, design-build firms, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, subcontractors, lenders and other related professionals who work in the remodeling field, says Gwen Biasi, NARI's director of marketing and communications.

"The association was established to provide the reassurance you need when setting out on a remodeling project. Our Certification Program formalizes the necessary standard of expertise, knowledge and ethical conduct within the remodeling industry," she says. "Each NARI member pledges to observe the highest levels of honesty, integrity and responsibility. They must also abide by a code of ethics, which stipulates a number of obligations in respect to their work and their client dealings."

As well as providing a resource for homeowners, the association is committed to developing and sustaining programs that expand and unite members of the remodeling industry, says Biasi.

"Contractors working in this field have the opportunity to grow by learning from one another," she says.

NARI is committed to educating both trade professionals and homeowners, and does so by reaching out to its diverse audience in a variety of formats, including education, training, publications and programs.

Biasi says it is also the only independent trade association dedicated exclusively to the remodeling industry. With the number of remodeling projects now surpassing new home construction, being a NARI member has become more important than ever before.

For many professional remodelers, NARI certification is a valuable marketing tool, as it provides assurance to the consumer that they are choosing an experienced professional who is dedicated to ongoing training and ethical conduct.
