Heat of the moment

It might be fun choosing fixtures, fittings and paint colours for your new home, but it is just as important to take time over the less visible products. Your choice of water heating, for example, can make a difference to your family's comfort and energy bills.

With a Rinnai Infinity 26 continuous flow gas hot water system you can have a endless supply of hot water. As the water is heated only as it is needed, you won't incur extra costs heating water that is stored for future use. It also means your hot water will never run cold, no matter how many family members shower in quick succession.

Digital controllers that allow you to pre-set your preferred temperature are available. These offer several benefits, says Audrey Smith of Rinnai.

"When the Infinity is installed with digital controllers, you're not mixing hot water with cold to get a comfortable level of warmth. The water temperature remains stable at all times," she says. "This means your hot water flow won't be affected by temperature fluctuations when someone turns a tap on elsewhere in the house."

Separate controllers in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry allow you to set the water temperature from each room. The thermostat ranges from a tepid 37°C to a hot 55°C, which will still prevent accidental scalding. There are also controllers for wet areas, if you want the ability to adjust the temperature while showering.

The Rinnai Infinity 26, which produces up to 26 litres of hot water per minute, is suitable for the average home with two bathrooms. Rinnai also has models for areas with low water pressure, and all models are suitable for both natural gas and LPG.

In most situations, the Infinity unit is mounted to the exterior of the house.
