Project management specialist Hyder Consulting has a reputation for solid involvement in landmark projects throughout Australia, including Melbourne's Citylink and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is also well known for its environmental team, which works closely with other departments of the company in order to provide total project solutions.

For the Hume City Council, the company acted as overall project managers, responsible for managing the feasibility, design, authority approvals, construction and commissioning of this iconic project. Peter Carnell was the principal project manager.

"We managed and facilitated interaction between Hume City Council and the design team, and ran workshops to review and encourage environmentally sustainable design initiatives for the project," he says.

Initiatives included the conservation of water through the use of grey water systems and rainwater harvesting, solar power supplied by roof panels, smaller car parks, and bicycle racks to encourage energy-efficient transport.

Hyder Consulting closely monitored the achievement of the 5-Star Green Star rating during the design and construction process, and managed the builder responsible for the recycling of materials from the demolished buildings that previously stood on the site, and the use of green materials, such as recycled timber and concrete.
