Given the pristine setting of Hyatt Coolum, it was important that the Visage homes and apartments blend into their environment however, they also needed an air of individuality.

Planit Architects undertook the masterplan for Visage, together with the initial sketches for the homes and apartment blocks. Planit Architects then brought the apartments and over half the houses to design completion, with another architect designing the remaining residences.

From early in the planning stages Planit worked closely with Lend Lease Development to ascertain the look for the homes, says director Mason Cowle.

"We wanted to create designs that maximised the surroundings, worked in visual harmony, and presented a demur presence when seen in the context of the greater environment," says Cowle.

The homes are set well back from the pavement and intermingled with mature trees, ensuring Visage really does look like it's part of the scenery. Given the setting, indoor-outdoor flow was a central design consideration, hence the expansive decks and windows.

There are seven house designs and two one-off designs comprising the 28 stand-alone residences, and they vary in layout largely in response to their individual topography. A common material and colour palette provides visual connection between the homes and apartments and helps them blend with the natural surroundings.

Generous, often double-height entrances give way to internal courtyards that flood natural light into the interiors. From here, the eye is led through to the decks and views at the back of the residences. Well-considered side elevations and window placement ensures privacy between adjacent houses.
