To complement the simple, yet sophisticated design of these ready-made pod homes, the designer specified Fisher & Paykel appliances
Sustainable design initiatives have had many innovative spin-offs. One of the more interesting concepts to capture the attention of both designers and homeowners is the ready-made pod house avant-garde architect Jean-mic Perrin's answer to high-density living.
The two pod homes shown here reflect Perrin's simple, yet sophisticated approach to design. The pods, which can be placed on top of an existing building, or stacked to create apartments, are fully self contained.
Designed on a strong horizontal axis, the open-plan living areas feature industrial-style, stainless steel kitchen cabinetry. To match the square, sharp-edged look, the designer specified Fisher & Paykel stainless steel appliances. A commercial BI453DPSS 60cm multifunction oven is paired with a powerful Apex canopy hood. The cabinetry also incorporates a Fisher & Paykel DS603FD single DishDrawer®, while an E522BRMFD 519-litre Iridium stainless steel refrigerator is positioned on a side wall.
Fisher & Paykel's design team was able to alter the DishDrawer's external specifications to match the architect's design the flat door profile, square-edged handle and EZKleen stainless steel finish complement the streamlined aesthetic.
The Fisher & Paykel refrigerator has a similar square-edged design and a finish that complements the other materials within the pod. Its Iridium stainless steel finish is pleasant to the touch, yet durable and resistant to finger marks.
This refrigerator features a humidity control system and Active Smart¢ technology, which uses electronic intelligence to constantly monitor and adapt the refrigerator's performance. Both these systems help ensure food stays fresher for longer.
