Grand but dated residences offer home buyers easy access to a good neighborhood, and in the hands of Atlanta Design & Build a sound investment
Gracious residences from the past don't always lend themselves to the entertaining and lifestyle needs of today's families. However, asking a specialist renovator to reinvent a rundown home can both increase its value and make the house a more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing place to live.
Atlanta Design & Build has built a strong reputation for taking the best of the past and adding a modern sensibility, says president Dale Contant.
"We undertake whole, or partial, house remodels that enable clients to enjoy large, spacious homes in established areas where buying a new residence might be beyond their reach," he says. "This project, which just won Regional NARI Contractor of the Year Award for Residential Interiors Under $100,000, provides a good example."
The house's central living area had originally been a double-height space with an asymmetrical brick fireplace that was not in keeping with the traditional decor.
"In response, Atlanta Design & Build introduced a single-level coffered ceiling," says Contant. "This extends the existing panel theme and enhances the French doors and new floor-to-ceiling windows."
Using unfinished attic space and what had been the ungainly upper reaches of the living area, Contant created an expansive children's bedroom. Dormer windows now play natural light onto a girl's study desk.
"The renovation has realigned the interiors to be cozier, more user friendly and more attractive for future buyers," he says.
