Contemporary housing trends place thermal efficiency high on the design agenda. Choosing a specialist in double glazing-friendly wood joinery is an energy-efficient option for your project.

Heirloom Joinery makes a solid timber and door system that has been widely used to combat European winters for over 40 years, says director Sam Burges.

"Called IV68, the system was designed specifically to take double glazing and has a deep 68mm-thick thermally broken sash and frame profile," he says. "This profile allows for double glazed units up to 24mm thick, offering maximum thermal benefit.

"For further insulation, the joinery is completely draught-proof due to high-end, integrated silicone-rubber seals."

The IV68 system also features German hardware, which puts a fresh angle on your windows' functionality literally.

"This hardware allows the window to tilt inwards to provide ventilation, or to operate as a side-hung window," says Burges. "You can activate either of these modes with a simple twist of the handle."

The integrated hardware cannot be seen when your windows are closed, and locks at multiple points for total security.
