Home automation at your fingertips
Updating a historic home to cater to modern lifestyles while preserving its architectural integrity can be a challenge. For the original Richardson-Franklin house on the estate, accommodating home automation systems required a little lateral thinking.
Home Technology Consultants was commissioned to design and implement easy-to-use, whole-house music and lighting control systems, a computer network, video solutions, and a hidden, discreet media solution for the great room.
President Rick Montgomery says the plaster and terra cotta walls meant that hiding all the necessary components for the great room was a particular challenge.
An Auton In-vis-o-lift hides a recessed Pioneer 50-inch plasma monitor behind a painting above the fireplace. The original, decorative radiator grilles, no longer in use, now accommodate Atlantic 4200 speakers, while the audio video receiver, HD Sat receiver and DVD player are all installed in a Middle Atlantic rack. The system is operated by an easy-to-use Creston STX-1700 touchscreen.
