Flexible space
Complexity of interior design adds interest to fitout
INNOVATIVE DESIGN calls for a non-standard approach to the fit-out of new offices. The building contractor needs to be open to new ideas, and able to think outside the square to ensure these concepts are implemented according to the interior designer's plans and expectations.
Mainzeal Interiors won the contract to fit out the new offices of American Express, and worked closely with the interior designer, Creative Spaces, to ensure the project met the high standards of the client and was completed within the timeframe.
Project manager Tim Price says the short programme time provided a challenge.
"We were able to schedule the works for this project so the client was able to partially occupy the new offices within six weeks of work commencing, and the offices were fully completed within eight weeks," he says.
"The creative design included curved and non-standard angled walls, as well as substantial expanses of clear and coloured glass, and lighting to emphasise the glass. Suspended ceilings in a variety of shapes also added to the complexity of the job. All these different concepts made this an exciting project for us," says Price.
