When you are looking to create a classic home that will keep its looks for years, it can pay to take a cue from the past.

The design inspiration for this new Karaka Lakes show home by Landmark Homes has its roots in traditional English cottage architecture, albeit a pared-back interpretation.

Sarah McMullin, managing director of the Landmark Homes Counties franchise says the custom-designed house is a good example of the high standard of specification and attention to detail homeowners can expect.

"Most of our homes tend to be in the middle to high end of the market," she says. "And they are all designed to maximise the building site and provide all the modern lifestyle benefits homeowners require today."

Sarah McMullin says special features of the home include the introduction of vertical brick forms to the exterior, to contrast the cladding.

"The brick element with the arched window encloses a staircase. The window is so large, the stairwell is full of natural light, and it provides a view as you move between floors."

The two-storey house accommodates two living areas, including an open-plan family room that opens out to a sunny paved area.

"We opted for a more traditional kitchen that would be in keeping with the character of the house," says Sarah McMullin. "Features include composite stone benchtops and gas appliances."

Also on the ground floor is a study that could be a fourth bedroom. The upper level has three bedrooms, including a grand master suite positioned to maximise the lake views.
