Expansive glazing in Tairua clifftop house, Fairview powdercoated aluminium joinery
Fairview Architectural series floor-to-ceiling powdercoated aluminium joinery in Silver Pearl with green-tinted glass
Floor-to-ceiling glazing is the best way to maximise a spectacular view, and that's exactly what inspired the glass box architecture of this Tairua house.
Silver Pearl powdercoated aluminium joinery from the Fairview Architectural series was specified for the home, which was designed by Bruno Schlatter of Ignoto Design. The joinery, supplied and installed by Tasman Aluminium, includes 2.5m by 2m sliding doors, low-level sashes and vertical louvres. All the joinery is double glazed, with green-tinted glass.
Peter Ryder of Tasman Aluminium says the size of the glass panels and the unusual shape of the roof created challenges for the fabrication and installation of the joinery.
"The cantilevered roof is tilted through two planes, which added to the complexity there is a different rake on all the joinery on the top level," he says. "And because of the high wind loading, due to the exposed location, all the joinery needed to be tied back to the steel beams and columns. The size and weight also meant a crane was required to lift the joinery into place."
