New doesn't have to mean modern when it comes to cabinetry. Traditional design styles can be fabricated using new materials, resulting in a classic look with all the features of a brand-new bathroom or kitchen.

Condominiums at this sought-after address, 840 Lake Shore Drive, were bought while the building was still in concept phase, and custom-built to the wishes of the buyer.

Designer Patrick McGuire from developer Related Midwest says that when designing these residences, they were able to satisfy the individual needs of the owners through their partnership with millwork experts Lee Lumber and the use of Wood-Mode custom cabinetry.

Lee Lumber provided detailed drawings, and its expertise in cabinetry meant owners could upgrade and customize at their whim.

"We could truly please the client and it's a real selling point when you can offer total customization," says McGuire.

For 840 Lake Shore Drive, most owners wanted something that would tie in with the overall style of the building, which was reminiscent of a French hotel. Using Lee Lumber to make it happen, Related specified Wood-Mode custom cabinetry to create the individual designs.

"Wood-Mode is designed using modules, with the option of decorative additions. Everything from size, shape, wood grain, finish, to drawers and handles, can be specified. This simplifies the design process for us," says McGuire.

The owner of the white kitchen and bathroom pictured here wanted an authentic vintage look.

"This traditional style required exposed utilities such as hinges and handles, but the benefit of all the bells and whistles of a modern kitchen are hidden in this look," says the designer.

A neo-traditional look was desired for the green-walled powder room pictured. Wood-Mode provided this cabinetry, which has a classic look. By specifying Wood-Mode instead of using a true antique, owners avoid the inconveniences that come with old furniture.
