Gone are the days when a place at the beach was a simple shed or a caravan, and a holiday was all about roughing it. Beachfront living today is frequently luxurious, and the living is easy.

The new Rockpool Apartments, 2 Surf Rd, Shellharbour, near Wollongong in New South Wales, take beachside living to a whole new level. Developed by Jonathan Homes, the clifftop apartments have an organic, curved form reminiscent of the sweeping coastline.

Director George Jamoo says the apartment exteriors feature Granicide, which provides a textured, sandstone look, in keeping with the setting. This finish also features on columns and around the edge of the extensive balconies.

In addition, all the balconies for the six apartments and two penthouses have large overhangs, with top-floor balconies incorporating skylights.

"The interiors also reflect the emphasis given to creating spacious, luxurious living environments," Jamoo says.

"From the travertine flooring to the Miele appliances in the kitchens, we opted for top-of-the-line products throughout. There is always an expectation among potential homeowners that the interior fit-out will reflect the luxury status of such apartments."

George Jamoo says this was the reason the company specified a full line-up of Miele appliances for the kitchens and laundries. The design and aesthetics of the appliances were also key factors.

To ensure the owners could cater to a crowd, a Miele H 4740 B 70cm-wide multifunction oven was chosen. The extra capacity means more than one dish can be accommodated at the same time. The oven has a PerfectClean interior with catalytic rear and roof liners ensuring it is easy to keep clean.

The Miele KM 371 G Ceran gas cooktop is also 70cm wide, with cast iron trivets accommodating two normal burners, a wok burner and a simmer burner.

For additional cooking, each apartment is equipped with the 26-litre Miele M 8260 microwave oven. The oven is suitable for plates up to 32cm in diameter, and features user-friendly selector switches and a full LED display.

The crisp, stainless steel exterior of the microwave is matched by the Miele CVA 4060 built-in coffee machine. Designed for the serious coffee drinker, this machine not only brews coffee to suit, it also grinds the beans to ensure freshness. Two cups can be prepared simultaneously, and the coffee machine can be programmed with connoisseur profiles, making it easy to produce your favourite brew.

Other Miele appliances in the Rockpool Apartments include the 70cm-wide DA 372 built-in rangehood, which has two powerful fan motors, and the G 975 i integrated dishwasher. Designed to provide a quiet operation essential in an open-plan apartment this dishwasher can accommodate 12 place settings. Its extensive programme range includes an economy mode.

Each apartment laundry is equipped with a Miele WT 2670 washer dryer a practical, space-saving combination washing machine-clothes dryer.

All Miele appliances come with a two-year parts and labour guarantee.
