Entertaining gourmet
When the dinner is served, guests remain unaware of the preparation and the cleaning up
Open living areas that include the kitchen are a popular feature of contemporary design, but they can make life harder for the chef. Most would prefer the mess and clutter that is created during cooking is discretely hidden from view once the meal is served.
In the kitchen featured here, designer Suyin of Fyfe Kitchens installed a scullery alongside the main area. This contributes to the room's visual and functional appeal as it enables out of sight food preparation.
This compact scullery has a stainless steel benchtop and glass splashback to match the hob in the kitchen. Concealed sliding doors made from blackbean timber ensure that the scullery can be closed off when meal preparation is complete.
Blackbean timber in the main kitchen frames specific zones, such as the sections containing the pantry and refrigerator.
A veneer made from the same timber is used in a horizontal application on the cabinetry and shelving. Aluminium skirting boards provide a visual accent and match the stainless steel appliances.
The attention to detail extends to the Fyfesilver cabinet interiors and Nova drawer runners which provide attractive, durable compartments in which to house a variety of kitchen items.
