Art imitates life a glass mosaic by Acappella Design Architectural Mosaics depicts a nearby mountain range
A classic example of art imitating life took shape in the kitchen of the loft dwelling.
Diana Maxum from Acappella Design designed, fabricated and installed a 12½ft-long glass mosaic backsplash depicting the nearby Stuart Mountain Range.
"My brief was to create something with functional beauty for the loft apartment's kitchen. I wanted to prove that a custom mosaic installation could work seamlessly with a tight construction schedule, while showcasing my work and the Built Green philosophy. "
Maxum worked with Brenda Nunes on the selection and design of the tile surfaces for the kitchen and bath areas. The tiles selected for the mosaic were in accord with the home's design. As well as being made from a recyclable material, they were lightweight and locally available, reducing emissions associated with transport. Any waste was further reduced by using the leftover materials for a smaller mosaic in the adjoining bath.
