Dynamic red and black colours prove to be a winner

As a principal partner of Manchester United, Kohler finds continued inspiration in the team’s rich traditions and pursuit of perfection. So when Manchester United gave us a sneak peek of its new 2019-2020 home kits, our bathroom design team couldn’t resist designing a bathroom to match.

A Bold Approach to Colour

Taking obvious clues from the team’s dynamic red and black colours, our team sought to embrace the new uniform’s vibrancy and energy while still embodying the calming and relaxing state master bathrooms inherently strive for. Mahogany Ann Sacks Crackle Collection tile paired with matte black Components faucets highlight the team’s iconic colours while creating an intense colour pairing. 

The faucets’ industrial-style handles, tube spouts and accessories simultaneously give a nod to the city of Manchester’s industrial heritage.

Embracing Pattern & Juxtaposing Shape

Details like the star pattern and gold thread used in the kit’s iconic patch – redesigned to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Manchester United winning England and European soccer’s three most sought-after trophies, known as the Treble – inspired small details that juxtapose the bathroom’s minimalism design with a tactile warmth. 

To balance the strong vertical lines of the Reve freestanding bath and Numi intelligent toilet, the design team chose a round light fixture and Vox sink – a shape that signifies the unity, harmony and commitment that led to the team’s historic feat.

An Organic Approach to Texture

Inspired by Kohler’s commitment to sustainability, the design team sought materials that would illustrate the idea that perfection is overrated while celebrating the hard work and dedication that goes into crafting each Kohler product – an idea that mirrors the hard work and dedication required for every Manchester United win. 

Crackle Collection tile embraces this concept by using recycled materials from the Kohler WasteLAB. Each hand-cut tile features a unique crackle pattern that leads into the organic patterns of the stone bath feature wall, the distressed metal window casing and the rough exposed concrete ceiling structure.

Thoughtful Use of Technology

To create a modern oasis of restoration and relaxation, the team added elements of technology including the Verdera Voice lighted mirror, DTV+ shower controls and a Numi intelligent toilet. This focus on technology’s ability to transform the routine highlights another a core connection between Kohler and Manchester United – two brands that are built on years of technical evolution.

Holistically Modern

With the finishing touches – including Turkish Bath Linens – complete, the home kit-inspired bathroom became an energetically nourishing space that’s both relaxing and revitalising. 

Holistically modern, it’s material conscious, it’s architecturally minimal, and it uses natural daylight to provide different moods throughout the day.
