With its proximity to the undulating contoursof the golf course, and with vistas of both Las Vegas and the desert, opening up the interior to the outdoors was an essential part of the project vision.

Large European-style sliding doors were specified to blur the distinction between the kitchen and family room and outdoor living spaces, says Sue Weiland, chief financial officer of Weiland Sliding Doors & Windows.

"These sliding doors allow the homeowners to enjoy unobstructed views, and experience a much closer relationship with the outdoors," she says.

Each door is made from double-glazed tempered glass panels with a ¾-inch gap, filled with argon to increase its insulation efficiency. The custom-painted frames are made from lightweight aluminum, which allows the company to produce large custom panels.

"The panels for this project are large and heavy, but they are easy for the homeowner to roll in and out of the wall pockets, because we use special lift and slide hardware for easy movement," she says.
