Neutral stone provides a blank canvas for detailing elsewhere

In keeping with the muted finishes and finetraditional detailing of the interior, the stone surfaces and floors in this home are neutral, with only minimal veining. They provide a calm backdrop to the decorative features elsewhere in the home with one notable exception.

A 72-inch medallion in the entrance hall is an intricate design, manufactured using an old Italian inlay technique and comprised of various limestones, supplied by Walker Zanger.

The company also supplied the stone for the kitchen, bathrooms and pool. The interior designer, Michael Macaluso, specified granite for the kitchen countertops, with pewter button accents in the ceramic tile backsplash.

Throughout the home, the tile and stone coloring is in shades of cream or mushroom, says Michele Aloe of Walker Zanger.

"From a design point of view, these materials are simple to work with, and provide a basic canvas," she says. "Nothing is overstated, yet they also contribute to the home's antique feel."
