Setting up a room dedicated to home entertainment is an opportunity to escape the rigid formality of the public cinema. A more relaxed, portable choice of furniture, for example, helps keep restless children's toes from tapping. This can also be whisked out at a moment's notice to free up the space for karaoke or an interactive video game.

The home entertainment room shown here takes this concept to heart. A family of bean bags provides a novel, relaxed choice of seating for children and adults alike.

The bean bags are easy to clean if drinks get spilled during an exciting cinematic moment. They can also be removed from the room completely in just seconds.

While the bean bags are a departure from the public cinema feel, the home cinema itself is not. A high definition projector, 110-inch fixed-wall screen and 5.1 digital surround sound see to that. In addition there is a playback and recording DVD.

All these components are hidden in custom joinery at the rear of the room and controlled by a single universal remote. Speakers are also mounted on a low Brushbox joinery piece.

The room's walls are in deep red and the carpet in a rich brown together they give the space a warm, inviting feel. Lighting is via 40mm Halogen downlights, controlled by remote switching on the universal remote. Small LED lights are also set in the floor, again like the cinema, to illuminate the room's tiered floor levels.

Sprung hinges on the door complete the scene pivoting in both directions, like their commercial cinema counterparts.
