Colonial expansion
The home's Spanish colonial origins are celebrated by ornate custom pieces from Giacomini & Sons Fine Woodworking
With a design that emphasized detail and authenticity, it made sense to employ experienced craftspeople and artisans to undertake the finer points of the remodel. Woodworking was an important part of the interior renovation.
Giacomini & Sons Fine Woodworking undertook several facets of the project, after being approached by Ellis Construction to create a curved mahogany stair, says owner Antony Giacomini.
"This initial element led to extensive work building custom period cabinetry for the kitchen and bedrooms," he says. "Honduras mahogany zar wood stained and finished in five coats of flat lacquer was used for all woodwork. Bronze was introduced as an accent on most cabinetry pieces.
"My woodwork had to directly complement the home's Spanish Colonial style and interiors. To this end, architect James Bourret worked with me on everything from the hand-carved stair newels up to the custom cabinetry, vanities, desks and bookcases. I also worked with interior designer Robert Holgate on the four-piece curved mahogany ottoman and hand-carved walnut Spanish console."
