The welcoming sizzle of a barbeque is a cornerstone of New Zealand's celebrated outdoor lifestyle. However, all outdoor appliances are not created equal so a celebrated name is a good place to start.

Since 1951, the name Weber has been synonymous with chic, efficient charcoal-fired barbeques throughout the United States. Testament to their design integrity, Weber still offers the little-changed Kettle model today in fact it is an icon for the international barbeque manufacturer.

The One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill, pictured above, is a direct descendant of the original 1951 model, but with modern touches, including a tough, steel-hinged cooking grate and a bowl and grill in enamelled porcelain. The original charcoal flavour and user-friendly design remain.

Over the years, Weber has expanded to offer a broad range of barbeques but even with space-age designs and handy accessories, the fundamentals still apply.

Cut to the Genesis S-320. Built in shining stainless steel and fired on gas, this barbeque includes everything from a warming rack to three stainless steel burners, a powerful 54,000BTU per-hour output, including the side burner. Even with these advances the Genesis S-320 also emulates the cooking style of the classic Kettle. Side-to-side running grills, an unusual layout, allow the chef to turn off the middle burner, providing for indirect cooking a must for large, slow-cooking roasts. This same effect was created by separating the coals off to both sides under the grill in the Kettle.

The futuristic-look Weber Q 300, also pictured, has a modest footprint while delivering a massive quarter-square-metre cooking area. Portable, powerful, and with folding removal tables like the Genesis S-320, the Weber Q 300 is also set to join the Kettle as a design classic.
