Changing lifestyles often determine the need for a remodeling project. For the owners of this house, a fondness for entertaining and an ever-increasing extended family precipitated a major kitchen transformation.

Designer Janice Teague, CKD, CBD, of Drury Design, Chicago, says this new kitchen complements the soft contemporary style of the 1980s house. Shaker-style maple doors were painted to blend with custom woodwork in the house, with dark granite countertops providing a bold contrast.

Functionality was improved to make it easier to cater to a crowd. Teague says the owners undertook considerable research into their appliance choice and chose the Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer for a number of reasons.

"The DishDrawer allows them to separate the wash loads they can wash the good china and glasses separately from the other items. Having smaller dishwashers is also more useful when there is just the two of them at home."
