Certifiable
Entrusting your project to any old builder is fraught with danger, unless the company comes with the approval of the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand
After slaving over the plans of your latest project there can be nothing more frustrating than handing it over to the building industry's answer to Dr Frankenstein and watching him create a monster.
That's why it's important to make sure only a certified builder gets his hands on your plans, says Derek Baxter, CEO of the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ).
"We think it is an architect's and a client's right to have someone with the skills and attitude to execute their vision. That's why we started the association in the first place," he says.
"Certified builders and carpenters must undertake rigorous training to become trade qualified. These skills help them establish good working relationships with clients and their architects, regulatory authorities and industry suppliers."
Baxter says these cohesive building processes bear fruit. The home featured here, built by RBJ Builders in Queenstown, was a finalist in the PSP Design Challenge.
"Nobody wants their home to end up on a current affairs show, so all certified builders must apply for a 10-year Homefirst building guarantee for new homes."
