This staff kitchen, used by up to 150 people every day for lunches and social occasions, is fitted with Smeg appliances
When the Chelsea Sugar Refinery recently began renovations, a new kitchen was seen as a great way to encourage staff from different departments to mix and mingle in a single hub.
Designer David Locke of Martin Hughes Architecture Interiors says the brief was to design a kitchen that would be a focal point where the 150 staff could gather together and make lunch, and meet up for social occasions. The kitchen was also to be used for meetings and presentations.
"We chose Smeg products for the kitchen because with that number of people we needed appliances that could cope and perform well with almost commercial levels of use," says Locke.
The kitchen features a Smeg dishwasher that offers 14 place settings, full- or half-load options and a rapid-wash option. Eight functions ensure the oven can be used for a wide variety of cooking, and the microwave offers a choice of preprogrammed options. The Smeg side-by-side refrigerator freezer has a mark-resistant stainless steel finish that will retain its good looks even with high use.
