Classic architectural styles are often admired by their owners because they embody a bygone era. But respecting the historical integrity of a house shouldn't prevent the owner from enjoying the latest in kitchen design.
When Fyfe Kitchens designer Suyin decided to renovate her 100 year-old bungalow, she planned a layout and chose cabinetry that offered the convenience of modern design.
"The kitchen had to be functional and the design needed to be simple and uncluttered, yet also complement the home's classic style," says Suyin.
The stainless steel benchtops and splashback provide a workable surface that matches the modern appliances and traditional timber floors.
"The permanent fixtures are neutral, however accessories, such as the wasabi coloured strip between the shelves beside the hob, can be changed to offer a flexible colour scheme," she says.
Ample storage space is provided by tall cabinetry along one wall. Between the hob and fridge, opaque glass doors conceal a pantry for everyday food items and small appliances such as the microwave. There is also additional bench space for food preparation.
