Black on black
Inspired by a picture in a magazine, this black kitchen came in at half the cost of the original, thanks to a selection of products from The Laminex Group
Everyone works to a budget, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise good design, as this project illustrates.
Kitchen designer Nicola Mason of Design Studio was contracted to design a sleek, black kitchen with a large island and floor-to-ceiling cabinets that include a laundry.
"The client had brought in pictures of a similar $50,000 kitchen," Mason says. "But the budget for this project was less than half that amount. The savings came from the choice of materials from The Laminex Group."
Formica Melteca laminate in Black was specified for the cabinetry. The benchtops feature Formica laminate in Black.
"We added a bright accent with the mustard-coloured splashback, which is Seratone in Bling," says the designer.
"The client likes to entertain and says the island is a magnet for friends and family. And, although black can show fingerprints more easily than lighter colours, the owner says it is easy to keep the surface looking good."
Mason says she regularly specifies Laminex and Formica laminates for her projects.
