Christchurch designer Davina Sutton won thedouble at the NKBA annual BathroomDesign of the Year awards
Winning a major national design competition is a major achievement it's even more remarkable to take the top two places.
Christchurch designer Davina Sutton of Indesign Architecture took both first place and runner-up positions in the National Kitchen & Bathroom Association (NKBA) annual bathroom design awards.
The Bathroom Design of the Year 2007, sponsored by Tile Warehouse and Quarella, was awarded for the bathroom shown above left and right. The judges praised the design detailing, the product choice, and the unusual choice of black as the dominant colour.
"A familiar elegance is achieved by the individual pieces of furniture in this chic, gentleman's club atmosphere. The design is modern and original, yet comfortable and sophisticated."
Sutton's runner-up bathroom design (below right) was lauded for its calm seclusion, with the judges commenting on the material palette that enhances the sense of a spa-like retreat.
The bathroom features a Philippe Starck freestanding tub, and a limewashed, handpainted vanity unit, designed as a piece of furniture.
Both the winning bathrooms were manufactured by Lyall Joinery.
