Good kitchen design integrates seamlessly with a home interior, as this project illustrates
Kitchens today are no longer isolated rooms closed off from the rest of the house. And because they are such an intrinsic part of the modern household, they are much more likely to blend with the rest of the home interior.
Designer Pauline Stockwell CKDNZ, CBDNZ, CIDNZ, of Pauline Stockwell Design in Wellington, is a firm believer in seeing the bigger picture when it comes to kitchen design.
"The cabinetry, appliances and fixtures are really just the beginning," she says. "The success of any project comes down to the overall interior decor and the way the kitchen works with the lifestyle of the clients. The same applies to bathrooms."
For this renovation project, Stockwell designed Tasmanian oak veneer cabinets for both the kitchen and dining area, ensuring visual continuity. The horizontal grain of the wood enhances the sleek, contemporary design of the cabinetry.
The large bank of cabinets on the side wall provides pantry and crockery storage. Stockwell says extra space was gained by recessing part of the cabinets into the room behind.
The kitchen also features CaesarStone Osprey benchtops, a laminate with a corrugated finish, and a mobile workstation.
