For instant impact in the garden, fewfeatures beat the sight and sound of a water feature, especially when that feature is clearly visible from the road.

The water feature shown here, installed on what was a dull roundabout, is one of the first things people see when they drive into Vision Dannemora, a senior living community in Botany.

Robert Luijten of Luijten Landscaping was commissioned to install a natural-looking water feature that wouldn't block the views. The trickle of the water also needed to be gentle, so it would not disturb residents at night.

"We employed an architect to create a design of interlocking concrete slabs, then added copper strips for visual interest and a better water flow. Native plants from our nursery were used to soften the structure," he says.

The water feature was part of a larger project for Luijten Landscaping. The company also installed mass planting of colourful annuals on the site.

"Water features are as popular as ever," says Robert Luijten. "Even when people have small sections, they still want to step into their own private outdoor space."
