A drone's eye view shows just how symmetrical and appealing this entertainment pit is – part of a grand pool in keeping with its lodge setting
Structural design by MH Design and built by Auckland Inground Pools
From the pool builders:
This project involved the design and build of an entertainer's pool that complemented the large country lodge that the owners had recently purchased – an entertainment area that multiple people could utilise.
The pool needed to be able to be used year round and easily heated to 28 deg plus – therefore hot water heat pumps were commissioned to custom build a heat pump solution that would serve the purpose.

Design requirements
The pool and entertainment area design had to be modern and symmetrically, in tune with the large existing home on site.
The homeowner specifically wanted the pool to look like 'it had always been there'.
The brief was to provide an entertainment area that includes the pool, an entertainment loggia and large pool surrounds.
Fencing compliance was a must as was having an unobtrusive view across the landscape.
Some considerations
There were geological considerations that needed to be taken into account – the site had a high ground water content, and the challenging clay soil impacted the excavation process.
The timing of the excavation was problematic due to Covid situation.
Innovative responses required
The entertainment pit presented challenges in terms of drainage, the fire pit and the fridge – ie: how to make all this work around the large pool area with lots of water present.
Pool automation was also necessary so the homeowner could control the pool remotely from anywhere in the world.
The custom built 140kw heat pump also required innovative design thinking.
