Architectural vision with Able Aluminium joinery

Blurring the line between indoors and out is an essential element in most new homes today, but the project featured on these pages goes one step further.

The house, designed by architect Simon Pirie of Cook, Sargisson & Pirie and built by Premier Landscape and Developments, features floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and expansive openings.

Builder John Rosenbrand says bronze powdercoated aluminium joinery from Able Aluminium was specified for the project.

"We have worked closely with Able Aluminium for the past seven years the firm's joinery perfectly suits our high-end projects," he says.

For this project, a mix of joinery from the Metro Series, the APL Architectural Suite, and commercial frames were used. The pivot front door, for example, sits in a shopfront frame and is flanked by panels of frosted glass.

Rosenbrand says much of the architectural joinery is large. The sliding door in the living area, which is from the Architectural Suite, is nearly 10m wide. The door is bottom rolling, so it has a seamless, easy operation and a flush sill.

The joinery also includes fixed and awning windows. Miro hardware was colour matched to the joinery.

Tinted glass helps to keep harmful UV rays at bay and ensures light levels are comfortable on the interior.
