Many little girls fantasize about being princesses or fairies, and one simple way to achieve this is to redecorate their bedroom to create the favoured theme.

Jo Burrell of Allium says the owners of the baby's room featured here wanted something that was feminine, but also a little different, for their first child, a girl.

"They loved the bright pink flock wallpaper, so we based the colour scheme around a feature wall," she says.

To create display shelves for a collection of baby shoes, felt flowers in various shades of pink were glued onto the wall, with little shelves cantilevering off them. The toy box and nursing chair are both covered in Designers Guild fabric.

Heavy taffeta curtains and light sheers in a soft grey, and walls painted in a metallic silver shade provide a subtle backdrop for the stronger elements in the room.
