Built around lanes and squares, restaurants and meeting places, Freshwater Place offers refined living amongst the bustle of inner city life
Designing and constructing a 60-level, mixed use facility is in itself a challenge. However, when the intended site is one of the last riverside opportunities in a city that prides itself on high architectural standards, the bar rises even higher.
Such was the assignment for Multiplex, a company with a history of residential property development and construction covering 160 projects over the past four decades.
The brief was to deliver a prestigious residential development with high-quality finishes, says project manager Luke Barton.
"The sheer size of the building and the challenge of transporting materials up to the 60-level tower presented enormous logistical problems that were only overcome through careful planning and strong communication," he says.
As main contractor, Multiplex was involved in both the design and the construction of the project, with its 528 apartments, podium housing, retail and leisure facilities and car parking.
"Another consideration was the contracted staged handover. This required extensive planning to ensure minimal inconvenience to occupants and retailers during the period when occupation and construction were concurrent."
Multiplex has four operating divisions construction, development, funds management and facilities management, which allows the Group to undertake work internally, or for other property developers, as was the case for Freshwater Place.
In its own right as a developer, Multiplex established Multiplex Living in 2002, a premium residential development business. Its philosophy is to establish buildings that maximise the characteristics of each location, and create living environments that make influential architectural statements.
