Advancing on all fronts
Home entertainment technology continues to develop at an ever-increasing rate. The latest new products from Philips are prime examples
A good home entertainment system is not just about perfect pictures and sound it's also about viewer comfort, ease of use and lifestyle.
The latest new releases from Philips reflect this philosophy. They also blend advanced technology with sleek, sophisticated designs that look right at home in today's contemporary interiors.
Ambilight 2 is Philips' new generation of Ambilight technology. This is a recent television innovation that analyses incoming signals and produces ambient lighting either side of the television to match the on-screen content. The first generation of Ambilight projected a single colour onto background surfaces, continuously reflecting the shade and intensity of the signal to immerse the viewer in the picture.
Jane Waddel, Philips AV marketing manager, says Ambilight 2 is an advancement of this technology, which incorporates independent left and right channels to produce different colours on each side of the screen for a richer, more personalised experience.
"Ambilight creates an ambience that makes for more relaxed viewing, with improved perceived picture detail, contrast and colour. It also introduces a sophisticated look to modern interiors."
Waddel says the intensity of colour can be altered to suit the viewers' personal preferences.
Another trend-setting development from Philips is the Wireless Music Centre (WACS700). This system enables you to store all your music at one source, but listen in every room of the house.
The music centre converts audio CDs into MP3 music files, stores them on a 40GB hard disk (up to 750 music CDs), and wirelessly streams music to up to five satellite stations anywhere in the home. This means you can take your favourite music from one room to another seamlessly, play different tunes from each of the satellites, or play the same song on all receivers in perfect synchronisation.
"The server unit has slim, built-in speakers using Philips Super Sound Panel Speaker technology; a space-saving trick that unites tweeter and woofers into a single unit," says Waddel. "It's a simple, yet affordable innovation, with a design that will complement the decor of other home entertainment systems."
Waddel says both Ambilight 2 and the Wireless Music Centre have been released under Philips' Sense and Simplicity branding, which matches high technology with the latest design concepts.
