For those who work and play in the city, apartments can be very convenient. And while they can often mean compact quarters, it is not necessary to sacrifice standard of living.

M&G Building Contractors is a small, family-run business that focuses on high-end, custom residential projects. Company project manager Andrew Severino says that the apartment pictured on these pages called for a high level of attention to detail.

"This is a penthouse suite, and one of 31 units that were each custom built by M&G Building Contractors. These are not run-of-the-mill apartments. For instance, hand-selected Spanish limestone is used for the flooring, with underfloor heating installed."

The timber veneer cabinetry is fitted with CaesarStone benchtops. The overall look of the apartment plays on a contrast between glossy white walls and floors, and warm chocolate-brown cabinetry and furniture, with easy access through bifolding doors to the lacquered timber decks.

"We work with clients from concept to completion, and prefer to get in early to lead them through the whole process, to reduce confusion. We have in-house architects, so we are often chosen for design and construct projects. These are better suited to clients who are looking for a higher level of finish," says Severino.
