A sound investment
Building a new house should bring returns in the long term, so long as it isproperly constructed. Choosing a certified builder means you can rest easy
Given that the largest financial investment most people make in their lifetime is the purchase of a house, it's important that the property chosen will pay off in the long term. When that investment is a brand new home, built to individual specifications, the rewards can be even greater as can the risks.
If a new house is not built to exacting standards it can become a financial liability. That is a risk not worth taking, says Derek Baxter, CEO of the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ).
"We believe it is the consumer's right to know that their builder is appropriately trained and has the skills and business ethics to do a good job. That is why the CBANZ exists."
Certified carpenters and builders undertake rigorous training to become trade qualified. Those skills help them to establish good working relationships with both clients and architects, as well as with regulatory authorities and industry suppliers.
And only a certified builder can offer the peace of mind of a Homefirst Builders Guarantee, which provides cover for loss of deposit, non-completion and defects in workmanship and materials.
