Mercedes-Benz Stadium is an under-construction retractable-roof, multi-purpose stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.Previously known as The Atlanta Falcons’ stadium has been released, revealing an unprecedented retractable roof designed by 360 Architecture (recently acquired by HOK).The winning design, submitted by HOK features an eight-panel retractable roof that can rotate open in less than eight minutes, much like a camera lens.It will also be clad in a translucent ETFE fabric that, when closed, will allow natural light to pass into its interior and a glass wall that opens with the roof, to allow in fresh air.Surrounding the opening of the roof would be a halo video board that will enclose the playing surface, stretching from one of the 10 yard lines to the other and then curving around the end zones to complete the oval. The stadium, already under construction, will feature expandable seating (up to 83,000 seats), a 61,000 square-foot public plaza and the “100-Yard Bar.” It is expected to open in 2017.
