Lady Wigram retirement village: The club house

The Club House is stage two of a five stage development that will include villas for independent residents, apartments, a rest home, dementia care and a hospital.
The Club House brings the villa residents together to socialise, dine, find a nook to read a book, complete jigsaw puzzles, play billiards and bridge, have a cut and colour or coffee and cake. There is even a theatre to watch an old favourite or the latest release!
We were asked to create a comfortable and functional space incorporating modern day living and familiar references to the past. Traditional elements were recreated using wood panelling, tongue and groove, herringbone tiling, carpet which replicates an old Persian rug, checks, tweed and houndstooth in wool, velvet and leather upholstery fabrics. Elements were added that have been used in interiors for at least a century or more but could sit within a contemporary setting creating a harmonious balance between the past and present.
