Architecture awards – The Pavillions, Britomart

Architectural diversity and talent was celebrated at the 2015 Auckland Architecture Awards last Thursday.Forty-four awards were shared among 20 firms, for projects that ranged from modestly scaled home additions to large infrastructure works. Winning entries included Allendale House, the Ponsonby home of the ASB Community Trust, designed by Salmond Reed Architects. This project was singled out for its “successful marriage of heritage architecture and modern building elements.”Mitchell & Stout Architects’ new Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery, alongside historic Lopdell House in Titirangi, was a winner in the Public Architecture category. The judges said the project illustrates the “transformational power of modern architecture.”The Pavilions at Britomart, a temporary cluster of retail and hospitality buildings by Cheshire Architects, received an award in the Commercial Architecture category. The judges said “skilled laneway and courtyard insertions continue the urban language and gritty fabric of this historic merchant precinct.”
