Armstrong Interiors, Christchurch – Bathroom
With ‘found’ solid wood furniture pieces and tiles that seem to peel back layers of history, this bathroom achieves a charming, French rustic aesthetic.
Judges' comment: The vanity composition in this bath works particularly well. The offset sink, mirror and pendant lights are great features, as is the lighted ledge. Creative tiling contributes a unique design feature to this bathroom.

Darren James Interiors, Brisbane – Bathroom suite
This bathroom is an artistic meeting of form and functionality. From the moody material palette to the interesting layering of spaces, this ensuite design does luxury living in a unique way.
Judges' comment: The curved cabinetry and limestone countertops provide a distinctive contrast to all the rectilinear shapes in this space. Touches of white and natural light cleverly counterbalance the moodiness of the dark finishes.

Every detail in this powder room is carefully executed to the highest degree. The balance of moody materials and a very deliberate use of lighting have resulted in a bathroom that exudes quality and restraint.

Moody and masculine was the brief given for this master suite, part of the transformation of a large home from four bedrooms to three. The results is an interesting space filled with thoughtful design touches throughout.

A key part of this master suite design was to achieve separated spaces for the toilet and the shower – both completely sealed and with good ventilation. This allowed the main area of the ensuite to be open to the bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe.

Reinventing how a bathroom is used, this design incorporates the dressing area within the ensuite. This move enhances and expedites the experience of getting oneself ready for the day.

This master suite within a stunning Grade II listed Cotswold manor is a luxurious sanctuary with 21st century style and functionality, whilst celebrating the building’s fabric and the owners’ love of wood.

The inspiring balance between black, white and timber finishes in this bathroom make the space as welcoming as it is stylish. The finished walls in understated marble-look panels and white mosaic tiling contrast with the galvanised black steel framing on the doors and mirror.

The bathroom in this home is a great example of how a project’s biggest design challenge can end up being the stand out feature. The challenge here was to fit an ensuite into the tight platform footprint, while still meeting all of the owner’s requirements.
