More to the design of this island than first meets the eye

This kitchen was designed to tie in with the architecture of the adjacent living area, which features board-formed exposed concrete walls and fireplace, and an oak planked ceiling. The casual dining area at the far end of the island has a thicker top and sits slightly higher than the workbench surface – helping give visual definition to the two different zones.
