Tall, dark and handsome
Floor to ceiling sliding panel doors access ensuite and walk-in robe in this atmospheric master suite made possible by reshuffled spaces

From the designer:
This master suite renovation was part of a complete overhaul of the home and all rooms were designed to fit with each other and create a continuity throughout.
The homeowners’ brief was to repurpose a current 5th bedroom to provide additional room for the main bathroom and allow for a new ensuite and walk in wardrobe.
Using the space that was the existing main bathroom and bedroom 5, I moved all walls to create the appropriate dimensions needed for all three spaces – the main bathroom, ensuite and walk in wardrobe.
This allowed for maximised hanging space in the wardrobe and a double shower and vanity in the ensuite.
In terms of aesthetics, the owners wanted to keep the feel of their character home, a transitional villa with classic features, but add a contemporary vibe.
Essentially, they wanted a moody feel with striking finishes – a bold, classic design in step with contemporary living.
As part of this, they requested matt finishes and a luxurious feel with a palette of greys and smokey tones.

To maximise space, I split the room allocated for the ensuite and walk in wardrobe lengthways into two long rooms – both entered from the master bedroom through sliding panelled full height doors.
The door wall is panelled in heights to match the doors when closed.
This allowed for ample hanging in the walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite with double shower and double vanity.
The panelled door colour was also followed through into the ensuite .
The vanity – designed with the same paint colour finish – meets this wall and blends into it.
Luxury was added with the brass inlay detail and custom made handles in a matching aged brass colour.
For a bold look, textured small handmade vertical subway tiles in a dark smokey grey are paired with contrasting large format white and black Statuario marble look tiles.
Using only the small subway on the side walls with the marble look 900x1800 size tile on floor and the main shower wall – highlighted with a wall to wall Led recess and Led in ceiling – really added the drama to the room.
This creates a bold luxurious feel as soon as you open the ensuite door – the floor flows into the far wall pulling you into the room.
Delicate details of aged brass tapware, brass inlay in the vanity doors, shower channels and hardware all colour matched in aged brass give a classic feel and warmth to the very moody space.
The tall mirrors accentuate the high stud and luxurious feel of the bathroom while the smoky glass bell shaped lights throw a warm light over the black honed granite benchtops and black concrete basins.
Extra LED lighting was added to further emphasise the height of the room, highlight surface textures and create mood.
