Tactile by the sea
How best to evoke a coastal theme for a bathroom by the sea? Here, the use of natural stone and timber-look finishes gets the vibe just right
Designed by Dane Richardson, Dane Design Australia
From the designer:
This bathroom draws inspiration from the home's beautiful coastal surroundings – the project is focussed on creating a space that balances natural materials, textures, and light.
Our design embodies casual elegance and relaxed luxury, complementing the beachside living ethos of this coastal retreat.
The use of natural stone and timber-look finishes mirrors the external palette, providing tactile and durable surfaces that feel at home in the beach and bush setting.

Natural light floods the space, enhancing the airy, open feel.
We specified sandstone-coloured tiles and classic white marble benchtops, echoing the internal palette of the house and ensuring a cohesive look throughout.
Playful curves and softened edges contribute to the relaxed, beachside ambiance, while also adding a touch of sophistication.
The bathroom features energy-efficient lighting and water-efficient fixtures, aligning with the owners' commitment to Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles.
In addition, high-performance thermal glazing helps maintain a stable internal temperature, promoting both comfort and sustainability.
Designed to facilitate laid-back, beachside living, the bathroom is both a private retreat and a space for rejuvenation.
By focussing on natural light, ventilation, and durable materials, the bathroom design not only meets the aesthetic and functional needs of its users but also ensures longevity and minimal maintenance.
The result is a bathroom that is both attractive and practical, enhancing the overall experience of living in the coastal home.
