This project employs colour, texture, natural materials, a plunge pool, barbecue, dining area and more to give the house an established, nestled feel

Designed by Adam Robinson, Adam Robinson Design

From the landscape designer:

We completely renovated both the front and back garden of this Northern Beaches home.

The house now looks and feels like it is established and nestled into the landscape – it finally has a beautiful sense of place.

We’ve packed a lot into a middling space – the generous plunge pool, a built-in daybed for chilling and a cooking, dining and entertaining area.

A family lives here so it was so important to have a lawn for the children to play on – plus an adorable cubby house.

To create this organic coastal haven, we used authentic natural materials including this limestone paving, hardwood timber, Corten steel edging and boulders that transect and break up the edging.

There is colour and foliage texture year round in this garden because we’ve planted a palette of palms, natives, grasses and some exotic species such as Sedum Autumn Joy, Elephant ears and Olive that are hardy and drought tolerant.

Plus, there is more colour splashed seen on the retaining wall, in one of my favourite paint colours called Dawn Patrol by Tint.

The stunning tiles we’ve used in a repeat pattern along the step risers make a confident statement of style.

A built-in barbecue is always our preference over a portable – it raises this entertaining space to a higher level.

The edge of the retaining wall and steps become seating when entertaining a crowd and I love how the steps flow seamlessly to become daybed sunlounges.

The rustling palm fronds overhead give you the sense of a ceiling and some tropical dappled shade.
