This low-upkeep landscaping project reflects on the clean-lined home it extends from, stepping down to accommodate spa and then lawn

Designed by Chris Jones, Lake Landscapes

From the landscape designer:

Sitting on a sloping site, this beautiful, unique architectural building was calling for a continuation into the garden.

We designed and built strong angles within the hardscaping focusing on reflecting and replicating our design with the house form.

The owners' brief for the modest 650m² site was to create a simple but eye catching design, with an emphasis on natural landscape – ideal for our owners to retreat and unwind in their own secluded area, boasting a stunning view.

To negotiate the sloping ground, three schist retaining walls were built – creating flat land utilised for a small lawn and the spa area.

Lake Landscapes also created the fence that provides privacy to the rear and sides of the section.

The hard landscaping comprises the schist and Kwila timber, along with macrocarpa, the latter used for the vege and sculpture\ gardens that run along the side of the home.

We sourced the Corten steel sculptures locally, from Metalworks Wanaka.

To ensure the gardens would be low maintenance, we selected native plants including tussocks, coprosma, hebe and corokia.

This striking, low maintenance design is one for our owners to enjoy for many years to come.
