Dark and sophisticated
Dark tones and interesting materials give this social kitchen an individual presence
Designed by Annika Rowson, Rowson Kitchens
From the designer:
The brief was to create a bold, dark and individual kitchen, incorporating innovative materials while not detracting or obstructing a striking picture window. The kitchen was also to merge back gently into this stunning open plan space.
The space needed to be functional for a family that entertain in large numbers and as part of this, the kitchen had to allow for multiple people working in it at one time – so designated work zones were imperative.

Custom 1.2mm blue steel by Rivet and finished in beeswax features on all lower cabinetry, creating a unique textured and raw contrast to the Acrymatte wall and marble concrete floors.
Sage Acrymatte in Eclipse was specified for the drinks station and tall wall of cabinetry, with Buster & Punch pull bar handles in matt black fitted to the French door fridge/freezer.
The cupboards were specified in black to blend into the Black Blum Legrabox drawers, which are fitted with Blum Tip On for a seamless finish including Flex fitted to the integrated 90cm dish drawer.
A Vintec matt black beverage fridge is fitted to the inside edge of the servery, within easy reach of glasses from the drinks station.
The custom splashback was applied by Impact Feature Walls to create the look of a textured concrete wall. This wraps around the hob wall to the front entrance, creating a seamless finish without the concern of trims and grout. Sealed, it is easy to maintain and gently blends into the space.
Dekton Domoos was specified for the ample benching, offering a dark yet durable work surface without the concern of heat damage occurring.
The drinks station features a Zenith Hydro All in One Arc Tap in matt black, along with an integrated Fisher & Paykel dish drawer.
The custom rangehood was designed to not only make a statement and enhance the high stud of the space, but to also offer storage/display in the way of open shelving.
More importantly it also offers additional task lighting due to the high pitch and timber ceilings. LED strip lighting was included underneath the shelving with a sensor switch for easy activation.
The G-shape of the kitchen allows for the necessary tall cabinetry, while the rest sits low and clear of the feature window.
The antique feature pendant light was added to the space above the servery to create a striking contrast to the modern and raw materials, salvaged from a French Hotel and restored by Vintage Lighting.
