Miami called, it wants its look back

This spectacular Gold-winning pool pulls out all the stops, with an infinity edge, safety/swim trough, spa, sculptures and a cabana

Created by Acacia Landscapes & Pool Construction

When the owners of this dramatic pool, cabana and outdoor living space first approached Acacia Landscapes & Pool Construction they had only considered a pool.

However one thing led to the next and the sparkling results of this sprawling outdoor space overlooking Tauranga Harbour speak for themselves.

The owner of Acacia Pools, Paul Fuller, says the company was responsible for almost all aspects of the construction of the project.

This included everything from extending the wall behind the pool that accommodates the waterfall, the waterfall feature itself, the infinity pool, spa pool, safety trough/paddling pool and even the substantial open-air pergola opposite the pool.

The swimming pool

The pool and landscaping was designed by Mark Cashmore Design, with the pool being 12m by 5m and a dive-friendly 2m deep at its deepest point.

The generous-sized pool features a spill weir or infinity edge falling into the safety trough on two sides.

The other open side of the pool is protected by invisible glass fencing.

A leading part of the brief to designer and pool builder was for the outdoor feature to suit the look of the home, which has plenty of glass, and the owners wanted to be able to look out across the pool and its elegant surrounds to the sea beyond.

The sea-blue interior of the pool is finished in Quartzon Quartz Plaster while the walls of the weir are in an imported dark granite.

The accompanying spa set in the timber decking is finished in a black granite.

Waterfall

The sheer decent waterfall feature was also created by Acacia Pools, this falls into its own trough but is actually recycled through the pool water system.

Where's the diving board?

A poolside stone ball provides a sculptural feature and doubles as a diving board.

The ball is shaped from Kilarney stone and was supplied as well as installed by Acacia Pools.

Steps and trough

This feature serves more than one purpose – the principal one being to avoid fencing on two sides of the pool.

At the same time, the steps offer casual seating while the shallow 400mm-deep trough provides a ready made paddling pool.

In addition, the steps are composed of pavers, with those on the lower steps painstakingly cut into neat diamond configurations.

Made in the shade

The cabana was also constructed by Acacia Pools.

The open air structure comprises steel structural beans with hardwood timber screwed into place.

Lacking walls, the operable louvre roof – installed by Louvretec – makes for versatile al fresco dining and relaxing options.

Further increasing the cabana's versatility is an Escea outdoor fire, set into one of the cabana's substantial concrete columns.

All that glitters ...

At night a sophisticated in-pool lighting system brings the pool to life in a different way.

... is gold

The pool and wider project has attracted a Gold award for Pools over 120,000 from the New Zealand Swimming Pool Industry Association.
