Memories of the Alhambra

One of our owners' favourite destinations is Granada, Spain and in particular the palace/fortress of Alhambra. 

This architectural marvel became the primary source of inspiration for the project.  

The master suite however, still required a degree of sophistication which suits our owner’s lifestyle preference. 

Thus a fusion was required between historically Moorish elements and the refined influences of traditional Spanish/Roman design.

The extensive use of natural stone, timber veneers (purposeful aged) and organic finished metals were essential in achieving a historical and tactile feel for the spaces.  

These textural experiences enabled the palette to transition away from the warm beiges and champagnes of the bedroom, in the direction of a bolder and refined design quest for the main ensuite.  

Contextually the spaces feel conjoined, but the visuals are very different.

The Moorish subtleties are suitably apparent within our selection of fabrics and decor which acknowledges the Alhambra’s historical patterns.

Our owner is passionate about one of the great Spanish architects –  Antoni Gaudi – and it was essential his well-known organic style be incorporated into the project. 

Through this opportunity we commissioned custom furniture pieces throughout the residence – in particular, the hand designed, cast iron feature bedhead and frame became a focal point for not only the bedroom suite, but the entirety of the project.

Ultimately it is felt that we both delivered and exceeded the design requirements for the master suite, not only creating a design our owners are proud of, but also creating a conjoined space they feel comfortable in.
